1. Community Identity vs Decentralized Value Creation

The Hyperbatch team pondered a lot when determining the size of the genesis NFT collection - Hyperbatch Barista Club aka. HBBC. The main reason for that is the team is trying to find the sweet balance between the exclusiveness of HBBC holders' social identities and the inclusiveness of the Hyper Café ecosystem the team envisioned. The decision was made in November 2022 that Hyperbatch Barista Club will cap the HBBC supply to 10K following the industry norm to reduce understanding friction and introduce utility token $HBEAN to achieve the scale true decentralization requires. $HBEAN will be exchangeable for the Hyper Café governance token at future development stages (read more here).

1.1 Community Identity

The industry has seen very successful communities built around PFP (Profile Picture) projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), World of Women, Azuki, etc. They have their unique and collective look that can bridge the gap between Web 3 and the mainstream media. The PFPs give them a community identity, even a social identity that talks aloud. Hyperbatch wants the same for a world of coffee lovers to show our appreciation for the ancient crops our mother planet gifts us by showing off their HBBC PFPs.

1.2 Decentralized Value Creation

We are stronger when united, Hyperbatch alone cannot achieve the scale we envisioned Hyper Café to be and we do not want the Hyper Café ecosystem as a community-governed system to be hinged on the rise and fall of any centralized entity, including Hyperbatch. We are a firm believer that our people got talents and we need a better system for the talents to show. Here you have $HBEAN, a digital asset created by you owning your HBBC NFT and contributing to the community. $HBEAN can be 1:1 exchanged for real-world coffee beans at Hyper Café from Day One and a lot more as the community will decide.

1.2.1 $HBEAN - 1:1 real-world coffee bean redemption

The first utility for $HBEAN is the 1:1 claim for real-world coffee beans at the Hyper Café online store. The redemption period will open for a week on the first full week (Sun-Sat) of each month. The beans will be selected and roasted by your fellow HBBC holder (Don't worry, she is a pro) to make sure your claim is well worth the wait.

$HBEAN is we want to reward our community members for participating in the Hyper Café ecosystem in similar ways centralized organizations want to reward their customers for reoccurring purchases or engagement. In this respect only, think of $HBEAN as loyalty points for centralized companies. While the Hyper Café ecosystem is decentralized and $HBEAN is programly managed by a smart contract deployed on a public immutable blockchain - Ethereum. The community can even decide to bridge $HBEAN over to other blockchains more suitable for the community's needs as the space evolves. Hence the community can always have a sense of belonging even in financial turmoils when centrally governed companies have to save costs and shut down their loyalty programs or Ethereum is too costly for Hyper Café to run operations. For $HBEAN, the value creation sits with the community collectively, which is much more superior and resilient than any traditional loyalty program.

No matter how decentralized a distinctive artwork-based NFT project can be, the scale is still restricted by the collection size.
